{"id":775,"date":"2016-02-18T03:03:51","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T03:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/discriminationandsexualharassmentlawyers.com\/?p=775"},"modified":"2020-01-13T05:20:40","modified_gmt":"2020-01-13T05:20:40","slug":"rep-taylor-bennett-introduces-bill-to-defy-pregnancy-discrimination-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.discriminationandsexualharassmentlawyers.com\/es\/rep-taylor-bennett-introduces-bill-to-defy-pregnancy-discrimination-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Rep Taylor Bennett Introduces Bill to Defy Pregnancy Discrimination at Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>House bill 972 has been introduced by Representative Taylor Bennett (D-Brookhaven) to <a href=\"https:\/\/discriminationandsexualharassmentlawyers.com\/employment-law\/pregnancy-discrimination\/new-york-city\/\">protect pregnant women from being discriminated<\/a> against and also to promote the full and equal participation of women in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also requires businesses to provide reasonable accommodations at work for job applicants and employees surrounding pregnancy and childbirth.<br \/>\nRep Bennett said: \u201cWhile the vast majority of employers in our state are good corporate citizens, some companies will change their treatment of women in the workplace only when they are presented with the consequences of discriminating against employees based on inaccurate stereotypes or personal biases.\u201d<br \/>\nHe also says his goal is to help women overcome fear so they can come forward when they feel they are being discriminated against.<\/p>\n<p>Are you pregnant and feel like you may be the <a href=\"https:\/\/discriminationandsexualharassmentlawyers.com\/employment-law\/employment-discrimination\/new-york-city\/\">victim of discrimination<\/a> at your job?<\/p>\n<p>Here are five signs that your employer may be singling you out due to your pregnancy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You\u2019re being excluded from training\/meetings:\u00a0<\/strong> If you have previously been included in company meetings and training sessions but since your pregnancy, you feel like you are being overlooked, confront your employer directly and ask what\u2019s going on.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Your emails are scarce:<\/strong> If you notice that your email inbox is not as full as it has been in the past, it may be because your employer is leaving you out of company emails.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You just missed out on a well-deserved raise:\u00a0<\/strong> If you\u2019ve been accustomed previously to getting raises or if you and your supervisor had been discussing the opportunity for you to get a raise and it all seemed so positive until they found out about your pregnancy, you may begin to think twice about what\u2019s going on.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You\u2019ve suddenly noticed you\u2019re being criticized more than usual:<\/strong>\u00a0 If your work had always been pleasing to your employer and you\u2019ve often gotten praise reviews but now all of a sudden you are being scrutinized over little things and receiving negative feedback, the reason why may be quite clear to you.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You\u2019re left out of social events:<\/strong> office parties, networking events, drinks, and lunches with the manager. The office may be completely excluding you for a reason.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There\u2019s always the possibility that your co-workers and supervisor are simply trying to be courteous by keeping you out of certain off-site events, but it\u2019s your responsibility to keep notes ask questions and always address your concerns that it may be discrimination.
